World Resonance Scene of the Day

At 177,668 words today. Did around 700. They are now on their way to Theine-the last town before they confront the Sorceror. Really feeling tired today and I can't shake this headache, so I kept it shorter today, but still not far from 1,000. :)

Plans
Sarah really knows Cain. That's why Bill smiled.

“We all agree that Theine is our destination,” Bill said, gesturing to the south. “There is a Cruinne there and the only way to get to Dorcha Torr is by airship. But, how do we get there and is it safe for us to take the main road?”

“Cain will probably know the best way to get there,” Sarah replied. “He’s from there. And besides, he’s got our only map.”

Bill nodded. “There’s one other issue,” he said, glancing at the tent darkly. “Theine was Cain’s home. How many of his friends have been mutated by the Cruinne? Do you think this could become a problem?”

Sarah lowered her head, staring somberly at her hands. “He’ll be okay,” she replied after a while, meeting Bill’s eyes. “He won’t like it, but he’ll keep pushing forward. That’s what Cain does.”

A small smile crossed Bill’s face. “Yeah. That’s what he does.”

Mom
Sarah plays Mom here, sort of.

Cain emerged from the tent, a map in his hand.

“Did you get enough rest?” Bill asked, frowning. “Because you sure as hell don’t look like you did.”

Sarah studied the former knight. Bill had a point. Cain had dark circles under his eyes and he just looked worse for wear. His face was drawn and pale. Even his eye didn’t seem as sharp as normal. “Go back to sleep,” Sarah snapped, grabbing a small stone and chucking it at him.

Cain caught it easily. Well, at least his reflexes weren’t suffering. “I’ll rest more tonight,” he replied, sitting down between Bill and Sarah. “We need to set out now. Theine is a long ways from here with not towns in between.”

Wise Cain
I love Cain's reply to Bill here. I also like his kindness towards Hikari. Here Hikari and I have something in common.

“Do we have enough supplies?” Bill asked, raising an eyebrow.

Cain spread the map out on the ground. “The forest will provide,” he replied matter-of-factly. He pointed at a dot on the map labeled Runach. “Obviously, we are here.” He traced a line south and then around a range of mountains to a dot tucked into the mountain range. “This is Theine. It rests on the mountain, so we will have some climbing to do when we reach it.”

Hikari shuddered. “I don’t like heights.”

The former knight smiled gently. “It’s not as bad as it sounds. A road has been built to lead travelers into the town.”

Banter

“Few people travel to Theine, especially on foot,” Cain explained, his gaze going to the road a few feet from their campsite. “Those who do travel take carriages and aren’t the type to bother in political matters. They are too obsessed with their research.”

Bill frowned. “They have no interested in the Sorceror or the power he could give them?”

Cain smirked. “They find those who rely on alchemy and magic weak. They dislike the unscientific aspects of it.”

Sarah scowled. “So, that explains why you had so many problems with alchemy at first.”

“Hmph,” the former knight snorted.
