World Resonance Scene of the Day

Mar 22, 2011 20:26

At 180,313 words for today. Didn't get many done. Watched a good movie when I got home, though--Good Will Hunting. I'm kind of in a writing slump right now. I know it will pick up more once they get to Theine which isn't that far off. I also haven't adjusted to losing an hour yet.

Lullaby
I keep hearing Room of Angel from Silent Hill when I think of this scene. x_x That's horrible.

Sarah bit her lip as she tried to think of something she could do. The only thing that came to her, though, seemed so unlikely to work, but as Cain continued to cry out and struggle, Sarah figured there was no harm trying. Gingerly touching the former knight’s arm she began to hum an old lullaby Bill used to sing for her when she was a child struggling with her own dream demons. Hikari gave her a surprised look, causing her to blush a little, but she continued to hum. To both girl’s astonishment, it worked. Cain slowly calmed down until he was sleeping almost peacefully.

Sarah smiled. “Who would have thought?” she murmured.

Awake

The sun was starting to set by the time Cain began to stir. Sarah studied him as he slowly opened his eye, noting the fact that he tensed when he noticed she was there. She tried giving him a gentle smile, but he simply groaned, bringing a hand up to his head. It was almost like he was anticipating the lecture she wanted to give him.

“Do you feel any better?” she asked him instead.

He pushed himself up into a sitting position, frowning.

“Is that a ‘no‘?” she asked, smirking.

He didn’t meet her eyes, his hand continuing to grip his forehead as if he had a headache. “I’m sorry,” he said softly.

That wiped the smirk from her face. Of all the things she expected him to say that wasn’t it.

Sarah Tries

“I thought I could make it to the town,” he went on, seemingly unaware of her reaction. “Instead, I have slowed us down and worried you.”

Sarah smiled away her shock. “You were just being you, right?”

The Lecture

Cain began to stand. “We need to go.”

Sarah blocked his way. “Oh no. You are going to rest here. It’s already nightfall and Bill is cooking dinner as we speak. You are going to let us take care of you for once. Goddess knows you need it.”

The former knight stared at her stubbornly. “There are people in Theine who are dying as we speak because of the Cruinne. The more time we waste babying me the more time we allow that sphere to wreak havoc on the town.”

The former barmaid crossed her arms. “Is that why you haven’t been sleeping? Is that why you’ve been having nightmares?”

Cain glared at her. “What difference does it make?”

Sarah returned his glare. “What difference does it make?! If you push yourself like you’ve been doing you’ll be in no shape to save those people as you found out today.”
