Fine. Don't buy anything. See if I care. I'm going to make a list of albums I purchased because I insisted that, based on the fact that I already owned albums by either that particular artist or artists similar to or influenced by that particular artist, I'd like them but, really, I got them because I wanted to hear that particular artist's ( Read more... )

Well, yeah. Stupid me didn't know that "Fire" was a Bruce Springsteen song - The Pointer Sisters led me to The Boss. And of course, smart woman that you are, you know that "I Will Always Love You" was NOT created by Whit(less)ney Houston but by Dolly Parton.

YOu're the first person in YEARS I know of who has even heard of Wanda Jackson. I'm friending you, hope you will do the same!

Okay!

Perhaps I should be, but I'm not too embarassed to admit that it was Social Distortion who led me to discover that shimmering bundle of sequins and snarls that is Wanda Jackson.

And I discovered not too long ago that one of my favorite songs of hers was actually written by Paul Anka. Oh well.

Paul Anka is a great songwriter...but you have to ignore some of his stuff.

I grew up in a house where 'girl singers' were a staple - Wanda Jackson, Connie Smith, Melba Montgomery...

oh man, two covers that I've been really into are:

The Faint covering Sonic Youth on "Mote" and...
Sonic Youth covering Madonna on "Into the Groove"
their version is called "Into the Groovey" though.
