On this day, the last

One of the few bands to whom I display an embarassingly dorkish devotion will be playing their very last show ever and I mean ever at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland tonight. I was hoping against hopes that they might make a miraculous appearance at Homo Agogo because nothing would make my urethral cups overfloweth more than the idea of seeing ( Read more... )

1. Turn It On
2. Leave You Behind
3. Steep Air
4. One More Hour
5. Good Things

I forgot that last show was tonight, an' I fuckin live here. I like The Woods but I essentially stopped paying attention to 'em a few years ago. Given what they've become (emblematically, and locally-- not even necessarily their personal preference), I think the breakup was probably a pretty swift move.

The breakup didn't surprise me in the least. They were a completely different band nine years ago and, for the most part, the changes have not been bad ones.

That was not a pun.

A bunch of my friends HATED The Woods because all of those lovely, fuzzy, feedback-laden tracks made for a very different sort of concert experience. It's a cool bunch of songs but you can't mosh to "Let's Call It Love" now can you?

And, incidentally, "Turn It On" makes me want to kick things over and laugh like a crazy person.

Exactly why it's the first one I thought of. Dig Me Out is a pretty good album, but that track outdoes the rest.

I can see how The Woods wouldn't make for the most manic live show. The last time I saw 'em was whenever One Beat came out. At the Crystal. The swarms of hyper teenage girls sort of did in my desire to keep seeing 'em. I didn't even plan on getting The Woods until even my most jaded anti-SK friends told me they were kinda impressed by it.

Do not cry, dear Brinker, for I will comfort you with chocolate, bad poetry, and bad innuendo.

Once, a lassie named Beebo
Donned the sassiest glasses in Toledo
Till a banshee named Corin
Screamed "BEEBS, PUT DOWN THAT AXE!"
Then Sally said, fuck it, let's dance.

On the other hand, I make a killer hot chocolate.
