Cliché is close but not quite what I mean, because as a poetic form the haiku is fine in itself -- it's the unpoetic abuse of it that's the problem. (I don't mind so much if it's abused well, as demonstrated below.) Really, any yahoo can squeeze anything in the English language, unless it's about pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis, and then only because it's two syllables too long.

I mean really, let's try this:

Worms gnaw severed branch
Antidisestablishment-
arianism.

So yeah. Seriously.

Haiku in English is very cliche. Maybe as cliche as dirty limericks. *shrugs* (I like listening to Garrison Keillor read poetry, but me writing it, not going to happen.)
