Are they ok alone or do they thrive more with a buddy? Would there be any of the extra care implements that you could send with them or would the habitat need to be set up from scratch?

My mom's house has had a hedgehog, half a dozen guinea pigs and a ferret. The first one hated us, and my sister became violently allergic to the others (SAD, I loved them so)and while I doubt she'd be eager to accept another charge or two with the four cats, two dogs and birds I can always make that phone call. I'll let you know.

By the time I'm willing to part with them, there's a very strong possibility I'll have at least the 10 gallon tank no longer being used. As long as the tank I have is under 30 gallons, I'll only have the heater I'm using and will have no reason to purchase other basking lamps ( ... )

hehehe, well I defintely understand the wanting some one who wants them thing. But mom rarely truly wants the pet until after she's gotten it (usually do to circumstances similar to the last two you got) and coo'ed to it a few times. A lady at her workplace said she was going to drop her ferret off in the woods if she didn't find a home for it that day. We were only going to originally take her until we could find another home and all of us feel head over heels in love. (Including one of the cats, strangely enough)

Shoot, now I want my Kiki back. But I guess keeping my sister alive was more important. =\

i call dibs on at least part of upstairs!!!

and as for the turtles, depending on the timing, Wil and I might be interested. We've talked about expanding our pet regime, but it'd at least 5 or six months minimum before we'd be ready

If it was something you definitely wanted to do, five or six month time frame could be workable, so long as you had the set up and someone to care for them during SOLAR weekends :)
