I had to research it before saying anything because I didn't want to sound like an idiot (not that this is uncommon), but I was really looking to make sure what I had always thought was correct. But, traditionally isn't the pentacle/pentagram, supposed to be upright? I had always thought that it being upside down was more associated with Satanic practices. If I'm correct in that (and I'm pretty sure, cuz once again, I looked it up) I think that level of ignorance right there, is almost worse than the sick, unfunny attempt at a joke the New York Post was trying to make by the epitaph on the headstone. I seriously hope the newspaper screwed up how the symbol is supposed to look also, because if that is genuinely what they plan to put on the tombstones, I can imagine that there is going to be a big fall out from it since these families have been waiting for years to have their religion acknowledged, and instead are insulted because the government don't even have the courtesy to find out how the symbol is really supposed to look in
( ... )
I'm glad to report that the Veteran Affairs department does indeed have the correct symbol listed on their website. It's good to know that the government (for once) isn't the completely ignorant entity that they are usually assumed to be. This just makes the NYP look that much worse because they willingly perverted the symbol of someone's faith. That is completely disgusting.
I so hate to see true ignorance in the general public. I like to think I respect all religions, since I currently don;t have one to call my own. Hmm, so what goes on my headstone....what is the recovering Christian symbol? good reason to get cremated I suppose.
