As far as sequels go, The Ring 2 was not too shabby.  It helped that the original japanese Ring director was at the helm, but don't expect too much scaryness.  And for once, an ending which isn't open ended and screaming sequel again.  Unless ofcourse, you pay attention earlier in the film

The Ring itself was bad enough.. why'd they have to go and make a sequel to it???

Why do they make any sequel to any film remotely successful? To cash in, ofcourse. If the japanese one can churn out four movies, that's good enough excuse in their eyes to make with the sequel machine.
