System Dumping, that's a first for me. pairodox August 16 2007, 15:26:31 UTC
So price dumping is when a corporation brings in a store to an isolated community and sells at a loss just long enough that it drives out all other competition. As soon as the local competition is removed it enjoys a period of time in which it operates under monopoly conditions without any of the legal hassle.

I think that is what they have aimed for with the OGL, and are now seeking to capitalize on. Hopefully it will backfire and create a boon for other roleplaying systems.

Races of Consequences is released to work with 3.5. If it is edited in any manner to comply with D&D 4e, it then violates copyright protection on 4e. As long as the players are forced to adapt it from 3.5 to 4 all is legally good, but it makes it harder to sell.

Now if everybody just kept playing 3.5 and ignored 4e, then the change in copyright status wouldn't matter, because 3.5 is open forever.

4th Edition might be good. Might. Be.

Wizards is making you buy the same core rule books for the THIRD time since they bought D&D. That also means buying Forgotten Realms 4e and its popular supplements, and Eberron 4e and whatever the hell people still buy its supplements for.

I'll bet $150 to anyone in this room that 4e is 3.5e with a cosmetic job and tummy tuck, with upsetting art that appeals more to the anime and/or World of Warcraft fanbase. $150, right here and now.

Then everything about the setting that we loved will be well and truly dead. And Wizards will make money, so who cares?

I haven't, though I've always been kind of interested in playing Star Wars ( ... )
