I went to Edinburgh Castle tonight to see Blondie & Echo And The Bunnymen. The last time I saw the Bunnymen was on the Porcupine Tour, so it's been a while. Will Sergeant was still magnificent on guitar, and Mac was Mac, but the rest of the band didn't cut the mustard I'm afraid ( Read more... )

I stood on Mac's foot in a club once, and he was hopping about being rather uncool - Les thought it was so funny he bought me a pint.

I used to be a huge fan of the Bunnymen and saw them when they re-formed, but I didn't like What are you going to do with your life - one good track but otherwise too gentle and sentimental for me. Haven't listened to anything new of theirs since then. The old stuff is still genius though.

One of my best gig memories is of Mac singing You'll never walk alone (badly because he couldn't reach the top notes, but he has presence anyway). Magnificent.

I was lucky because they played Scotland a lot in the early days, so I got to see them on most of the early tours. Have you read Mac's biography? It's worth a read, especially if you read Cope's at the same time.
