Counting Up / Kingdom Hearts / Xigbar.Maverix (OC)
My first writing for the
1sentence community. The pairing was kind of random, but I guess it's always a bit strange when you use OCs. Maverix is a creation of my brother and I shortly after playing CoM, and so are some of the others mentioned here (Adriax, Sphynx, but Sive is mine). They were made before we knew about only 13 members, etc., so the storyline they are in takes place after the second game. I could fill you in on how everything is working, but that would be awhile, so just suspension of disbelief for awhile, please? ^_^
As for these sentences themselves, they get much better nearer to the end (the beginning was an on the whim thing). Oh, and Maverix's ability is invisibility, just to clarify stuffs. So here goes...

#01 - Ring
“Wear the damn ring so I can see where you are, for chrissakes.”
#02 - Hero
Maverix had never needed a hero, but Xigbar was all too irritatingly happy to oblige.
#03 - Memory
He can’t say he remembers what he looks like or who he used to be, and the only reason he remembers where he is is because Xigbar won’t let him forget.
#04 - Box
“You don’t need to put me in a box, I’m not going to disappear on you.”
#05 - Run
Xigbar runs into him every day, but he knows Maverix could move if he wanted to.
#06 - Hurricane
Being in love with the Freeshooter (well, at least pretending) is like being in love with a hurricane; he rips right through you and you’re left wondering how exactly you got there.
#07 - Wings
Xigbar never ceases to crack up when he sees chicken wings being eaten by thin air.
#08 - Cold
In winter, Xigbar can see the smoke when Maverix breathes and his hands reach out and touch to see how real he is; his skin is very cold, but it has always been like that.

“Okay, so how about you wear a red ribbon in your hair, with a bell-hey wait, put that down!!”
#10 - Drink
Xigbar was the first and the last one to make him squirt water out of his nose, but unfortunately Axel got the video tape.
#11 - Midnight
Maverix is an insomniac until exactly midnight; Xigbar tries to keep him busy till then.
#12 - Temptation
He’s solid, but his hood still covers his face; Xigbar’s hands reach to pull it down but Maverix’s hands stop him.
#13 - View
“Just one look; can’t you see it from my point-of-view?!”
#14 - Music
It’s easier to dance with music that isn’t there than it is to dance with a partner that isn’t really there, but Xigbar’s getting better every time.
#15 - Silk
Maverix’s hair feels like silk; Xigbar wishes he knew what color it was.
#16 - Cover
He is just an outline, a painting of the shadows and moon tangled in the sheets, and Xigbar wonders why he was stupid enough to ‘feel’ for something he can’t even see.
#17 - Promise
He whirls around and his hands reach for the hood that isn’t there, while Xigbar is too stunned to remember broken promises.
#18 - Dream
“Sometimes I wonder if you’re just a dream, just my fucked-up mind trying to hold onto something real.”
#19 - Candle
Xigbar lights a candle and waits; when the flame goes out and they are in darkness, only then can he touch him like he’s really there.
#20 - Talent
They had always told him that he had a talent for killing; Xigbar was the first to say he made him feel alive.
#21 - Silence
Maverix was silent if left to his own devices, too silent, and Xigbar always ended up warping the air just to see if he was still there.
#22 - Journey
“I don’t care, next time I am going to fucking handcuff myself to you, because that is the last time you are walking off in the middle of the night in a goddamn Heartless infested world!!”
#23 - Fire
There are burns down his back, Xigbar can feel them in the darkness, but they are artistically grotesque, as if not even fire could bear to harm him.
#24 - Strength
“He is strong, but you know he’ll shatter, like glass,” Adriax says as she watches him train, and Xigbar wants to prove her wrong, or at least be there to see what’s left of the pieces.
#25 - Mask
Maverix knows that the emotions they feel are masks to cover the emptiness, nothing more than elaborate pretending, and Xigbar is an excellent actor.
#26 - Ice
Love in the absence of love feels like ice but leaves an aftertaste of fire; Xigbar had never been in love, so he can’t remember if there’s anything more than this.
#27 - Fall
Xigbar never made the promise to catch him if he fell, because he knows his own limits and he wants to see what’s left when Maverix is finally broken.
#28 - Forgotten
“Could you remind me? I can’t remember what you look like anymore.”
#29 - Dance
When Maverix fights one can’t see anything except a dance of weapons on air, and if he’s feeling really malicious, the dance of Heartless smoke and nothing more; still Xigbar can’t stop watching.
#30 - Body
The first time Xigbar saw Maverix’s true body, he was surprised at how delicate he was; of course, carrying him home in the rain after being near mutilated by an army of Heartless would make anyone seem delicate.
#31 - Sacred
“Our bodies are temples,” Maverix would say, when he was in his distant mood, running a single finger down the Freeshooter’s ragged cheek; “they are built by out scars.”
#32 - Farewells
Some days Maverix would just disappear; those were the worst for Xigbar, because without a farewell it really was as if he was nothing at all.
#33 - World
Xigbar was one of the few who could say that the world was his plaything, but at the moment it wasn’t the one he wanted.
#34 - Formal
They weren’t formally together, but Nobodies really didn’t have that luxury and they may have been glad for that.
#35 - Fever
Xigbar feels him trembling, he hears the bitter coughs, but Maverix’s skin is still no warmer to the touch.
#36 - Laugh
Xigbar, leaning casually against one of the castle’s ceiling arches, told him offhandedly that sometimes he heard him crying at night, and Maverix smiled (though he couldn’t see) and told him it was all laughter in the end.
#37 - Lies
The wall is cold against his back; he looks into sniper’s molten gold rage and cups his face in his hands, his voice as frigid as the touch; “Would you like me to tell you that I love you?”
#38 - Forever
Xigbar snarls but he still can’t bring himself to hurt the other, and gently he lets the coat slide through his fingers and walks away; “It’s a good thing that you never said forever, you can’t even give me now.”
#39 - Overwhelmed
He has never been so recklessly out of control of this emotion playacting, and he hates Xigbar for making him think that for maybe one moment they could have been real.
#40 - Whisper
Sphynx caught him about the waist in his passing (always with that uncanny sixth sense) and his voice was a tingle of breath against his ear; “Do you remember the tragedy of Roxas and Axel?”
#41 - Wait
He didn’t wait for the end, no, he kissed the Freeshooter in full face and form and carved his destruction for each and every hollow heartbeat that never was.
#42 - Talk
Maverix’s flail kills in whispers and Xigbar only knows how to destroy with a clamor and chaos; they understand each other’s motion so much more than their unsaid words.
#43 - Search
The world warps around him, the fabric of reality bending and twisting with the controlled rage, and Zexion catches him by the arm for a brief moment; “You can’t find what does not want to be found.”
#44 - Hope
“Because I let it die in me, and now it’s so much easier to be what I am,” whispers the voice, and Xigbar no longer knows who or what he is talking to.
#45 - Eclipse
Xigbar isn’t blind in that covered eye; it’s a radiance as fierce as the sun and as feral as wildfire, and Maverix slides that leather patch back before he’s burned by that something he will never know.
#46 - Gravity
Vexen muses at the figures out the window, the one he can see and the one he can’t, while Sive plays with the spilt mercury on the countertop; “If it is as you say, child, if ‘love’ and gravity are two faces of the same force, then that one-eyed fool really has no control over his own power.”
#47 - Highway
“Then look for me by moonlight, watch for me by moonlight, I’ll come to thee by moonlight though hell should bar the way…and I damn well mean it you sneaky little bastard.”
#48 - Unknown
“It’s nothing but the want to know what you can’t, and the lust for what can’t be had, we have no emotions so love plays no part, and Xigbar is just to arrogant to realize the futility”; Zexion is cool and methodical about it, and Adriax doesn’t know why she wants to slap him.
#49 - Lock
“It’s ending now, before I have to bear this chain forever,” and he leans down and his lips are all ice and razors as he rips out that lock and key and leaves no trace that it ever was.
#50 - Breathe
Xigbar’s eyes are closed and his arm reaches out in the silence, the guns loaded with one single shattering click, and for an instant he thinks that he does not need that heart after all; “You forget, babe, I can still hear you breathing.”
