Why is poetry so powerful? Is it the idea of using so few words to express so intense an emotion? Is it just because it just because it is different from common speech? And why does it work? Is it the delivery that makes the impression, or is it the feelings expressed that makes poetry such an intimate form of communication. What qualifies ( Read more... )

poetry is whatever the poet wants it to be. A true artist won't reveal it, leave it to be analyzed unless it's easy to understand, because they want no mistake of what it's about. Good poets have good diction, but don't necessarily use it in poems. Poems are emotions on paper, thoughts on paper, peoples lives on paper. In my definition, anyone who writes poetry with all these requirements, even if it's only 1 poem the are poets.

hmmm...good take on it. And I hope I'm not over-analyzing them, just trying to explain to others why certain poems can be so powerful to me. Anyways, thanks for the input.
