All by myself...I'm all by myself...

I’ve got a question. How many of you do not have daily personal, i.e. face-to-face, contact with a spouse, paramour or close personal acquaintance? This is only time spent outside of work since many people do have at least one close acquaintance that they work with. My mood has grown more and more sullen lately. Read up on socialization - maybe even George Herbert Mead's Theory of the Social Self. Because you're right. (Oh, and the Harlow monkeys.)

I've been largely disconnected from my social circle for two months. I've had Greg and Destiny for the most part, and I've been on campus with driftwood morons every single day. But it's not the same as the variety I was used to. Now I'm used to this.

I find that around here I don't have a lot of local friends, and very few at work. So the more time I spend at home alone, the crabbier and grumpier I get.

None of the first two --
But I actively seek to do several things:
1. Have frequent contact with 2-3 close friends.
2. Have more than one social circle (it helps me define myself apart from the context of only one group).
3. Do business regularly with service industry acquaintances with whom I am friendly (e.g., the same cashiers, waitresses, etc).
Those things help me feel like I stay connected.

This is a question of a lifetime. We should get a drink some night soon since we both live in the Boro now. I have a really, really long theory.

Right here. Yo. I see my best friend and her husband probably once or twice a week, my family one a week (except when Dad has to work on the house in the morning then maybe twice or three times occasionally).

I'd say it's more the job doing this to you.
