If it weren't for the horrible smell of mice, I would keep one as a friend. Maybe you shoudl try rats, they dont smell.

true, and they bite into everything like computer cords... but they also act more like real pets and are very intelligent. If you get a female one that is an inbred mutant it can be quite small. And they don't smell! :)
