I have a question and I wasn't sure where else to ask, feel free to chastise me, but I am wondering could anyone point me toward any victorian paintings that depict a house clearance or auction? I am studying 19th century art myself but haven't come across anything with that subject matter, only evictions and emigration. Any help will be much

Try contacting the author of the Ptak Science Blog - he owns a bookstore that specializes in rare pamphlets and ephemera, and often does blog posts about artwork that features mundane experiences, particularly in the background or as part of larger cityscapes or architectural illustrations. Not precisely what you were asking about, but he has a phenomenal collection and a truly breathtaking ability to organize disparate pieces of visual art around very eclectic themes. He does a lot of 20th century stuff but his blog posts cover material going back to antiquity, so he might have some ideas.

Try looking for illustrations of La Dame aux Camélias? The novel opens with the auction of the title character's belongings--I don't know if it would've made it into a painting, but surely at least one illustrator would've covered it. There are probably public domain translations online so you can find the relevant chapter title.
