I got my first tattoo last summer and have two now. And I am in my forties as well. I love them! I wanted one for a long time, even though my husband was dead set against it

Thanks for sharing. I've heard that they're addictive, ya get one and ya want more, and what you're saying bears that out. I thought about getting one on my ankle a few years ago but I never acted on it. This crazy white patch on my upper back is almost a perfect circle and it really does look like a little sun. So when my office mate mentioned that he had gotten a tattoo to cover a scar it started me thinking about doing the same. He showed me his tat and it looks pretty good-he's Cuban so it's got a Cuban flag incorporated into it. Nicely done, good color and all. He says it does hurt afterwards though. And yeah the small of the back is cute for younger women but if I have the nerve to get one as a cover up I'll be happy.
Well yeah, the small of your back is better for younger women, because people really don't want to see my flesh when I bend over. But I think there is something erotic about having something unexpected there when you catch a flash of skin.
The tattoo itself almost feels more like a cheese grater grating your sking then a needle. Afterwards it does hurt, but it's more like a skinned knee.
