What we're looking at is how a child's temperament (a fancy word akin to personality) affects one's cognitive abilities. Specifically, we are focused on using temperament as a risk factor of depression to see if it is associated with a cognitive set that suggests the future emergence of depression. As a proxy for the child's likelihood of getting depression when they are older, we interview their parents, looking for past or present cases of depression or dysthymia. Interesting stuff!
