I have a feeling this is one of those movies that pop culture conference peeps are going to have a field day with. It sounds like garbage, but I've seen people get pretty feisty over defending it for being fauxsploitation or something to that effect.

Well I knew there had to be some of that element. I mean, anyone could recognize the archetypes and cliches from those movies. It had to be conscious. Still, the whole "Ohh I'm a sexy sex crime victim!" card was played SO hard that it just wasn't cute or kitschy or trashy fun or anything. It was just offensive.

And if it was fauxsploitation, it wasn't well done or anything, so there's really nothing to redeem it.

Amen, sistah. Honestly, the more I've seen Watchmen, the more I've decided that it could have been done much better.

I have not seen this movie and have no desire to. Son saw it and gave it a C- and he is 14. Can you say target audience? I'm so glad he saw through it.

And I have this other friend. My age. Who loves it and thinks everyone who is slamming it just isn't seeing it as the empowerment film it truly is.

*sigh*

My guess is that we are SO starved for intellectual stimulation that ANY effort at intellectualism is seen as brilliance, no matter how weak and feeble it is. This gets especially amusing when people who who go "Woah, they made an 8th grade attempt at using symbolism. They are GENIUS!" claim that the people who weren't taken with it "Didn't understand."
