I don't want to make a political statement, I just want a cheap pair of shoes.

I just had to buy sneakers the other day, which set me back a bit. I don't mess around when it comes to sneakers, I buy Saucony. They fit my feet better than any other sneakers, and they feel the best. I'm also hoping to start walking again and between that and the miles I put on at my job, I have to have good sneakers and I have to replace them ( Read more... )

I love reading your entries. You have a gift for storytelling. I was practically crying from laughing so hard. You've made my night right here. (It helped that I read the other entries you linked to, also.) :)

As for the woman in WalMart, if cheap and made in China is so bad, why is she even shopping there? WalMart is the king of cheap and made in China. *shakes head* And it disturbs me that she is so concerned about the feet of someone she does not even know. *g*

Thanks. *blush* I'm glad you like my entries.

I don't know if she was as worried about my feet as she was a member of the Cult of Crocs, looking to indoctrinate a new member.

First of all crocs are ugly and they make people look like a dumbass. Second of all, crocs are mainly made in China. So there. Third, if I ever want to feel smart, I go to Wal-mart.

Well, I did some research and some Crocs are made in Italy and Florida, but China is probably where the bulk of them are made.

If they were half as good as members of The Cult of Crocs tell me they are, I'd probably be willing to deal with the ugly. Foot comfort means a lot to me. But, really, I can't feel the difference.

Sure, I should test them for longer than a few minutes at the store, but for 30 bucks, I'm not going to test them longer. If any high priest/priestess of the Cult of Crocs wishes to send me a free pair, I'll give them a more extensive check.

I think half of the hype is self induced. A few people noticed that the shoes were comfortable. They convinced others to buy them. People did and soon realized that these are the ugliest shoes in the world. But, they had to justify why they bought them, so it became, "Oooh, these are the best shoes ever for your feet!"

I know that surgeons use them a lot. Why? Because you can stick them in the dishwasher.

Well, I don't have a dishwasher, so that special effect is lost on me.

I'll never forget the time that a girl insisted that two sequels to Titanic had been made because the box said Titanic 3 Disk Edition. If I had been really evil, I would have suggested that she find Titanic 2 and watch that.

See, that is the time when I wouldn't mind having someone's phone number, so I could call them and ask them how they liked the third movie.

...Why do random people that one has never met before think we care what they think about the stuff we do/buy? It's not like it affects them. O_o

In most cases, I think with me, it's because I attract weirdos. But, in this case, I think there is a new Cult, the Cult of Crocs, and I ran into a high priestess who was trying to convert me.

Trying being the optimal word here. She didn't win.

...Suddenly I feel like I'm paying way too much for my cheap sneakers.

That said, I couldn't stop loling at the Crocs proselytizer. Don't tell me about what's good for my feet. Especially when they're fugalicious like Crocs. I'd rather walk barefoot.

These were originally six bucks, now on clearance. The funny thing is that there were newer ones for six bucks and I could barely tell the difference. Even for imitation ugly footwear, you need to have "this year's model."

I really think croc lovers are a cult. It seems that the people that like them, worship the goddamned things and get very angry if others don't share this belief.
