I took Jesse for a walk tonight, because he was being a complete and utter pain in the ass about it. Whining and whining, so on and so forth

Well, before Jesse goes out again, I have to know there is a way of completely restricting him. I can't tighten the harness any tighter, but there has to be some way.
I am glad that he is back safe and sound. My cats have turned indoor/outdoor cats with our last move. It was all good until yesterday George was caught outside the fence. I knew that he might be doing it but had no proof. Eventually, we want to get a taller fence with those inward top attachments that won't let them out. I don't know if I am very happy about him getting out of our yard.
My best suggestion is to get one of those tall cat cages for them to be outside. It would be a bitch to move back and forth but you would know they were always safe.
An excellent suggestion, except that we really have no yard. I'd have to put the cage on the driveway, in which case, it defeats the purpose. I want to give Jesse a way to burn off some energy. In a cage, if he wasn't stressed, he'd just be confined to a small area. Also, there is the matter of lack of storage in our apartment.
I'm going to continue with the leash, I just have to be very careful.
I've often referred to any attempts to restrain Boo as trying to hold a snake covered with butter. He's long, lean and quick. Tried a harness on him...just for the porch...and although it seems it couldn't be tight enough for the buttered snake, the harness makes him freak out so bad that he runs back in the house.
I like the walking jacket paleoanthrop recommended. May consider trying one, for...I'm not sure who first.
Glad you got him back. I would've freaked. I know that panic...if it were me adrenaline would've kept me going till the end at which point I would've probably passed out after I was certain the cat was safe.

I wrote and asked if there was a local retailer where I could buy one and they haven't gotten back to me. I like the idea of the jacket, except that I want to touch it and examine it closely first.
I'm also trying to think if I can design something that will work.
