When your ex found out we were getting to know one another, his wife blocked me from reading their weblog, after she'd been in mine 27 times last month! I was behavin', just reading, not commenting, not even writing any jabs in my place.
Guess instead of persona non grata, I'm now a classified threat to the organization. If you choose to tell them when we get together, that's entirely up to you. If respectful corresponding heightens the paranoia level to block-the-blog levels already, whatever will they do when we take our outing? *shakes head* People as together as they say they are would certainly be a little more rationale, wouldn't ya think?
Hi there, I'm one of the mods for debunkingwhite. We recently received your request for membership; as part of the intake process, we ask if you could share a little about your interest in anti-racism and what drew you to the community. (We like to get a feel for where people are coming from). You can either respond here or send an email to my livejournal dot com address if you'd prefer; please put your username in the text of the email if you do that so I know who I'm talking to. Thanks!
I was referred to this community by someone (honestly can't remember who) from a different community I am in. It was mock_the_stupid. Someone was making fun of someone who didn't know anything about being jewish....and it turned into this huge debate on race and religion. It was quite fun.
So I looked around your community and found it very intriguing. It's nice to see a community at livejournal which is not putting people down or making fun of people all the time. (Ok, sometimes it is a guilty pleasure but in small doses.) But I have always been interested in anti-racism. I grew up in a Jewish family, went to school in the South, but most of my friends were not white. So anti-racism and racism has always played a role in my life/up bringing/growing up. And I always love a good debate too.
Cool. I will say that we're not expressly a community for debate. Not that we're averse to it, and obviously it's a big part of what we do; it's just not the reason for our existence, if that makes sense. We're here to provide support for anti-racists. But anyway, I like to recommend some readings to our new members: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack is linked off our community info page, and I personally recommend the essays of Tim Wise, which you can find at http://www.timwise.org/. I find he lays things out pretty clearly. Thanks for responding, and welcome!
