I love that movie. It's so darn charming! Makes ya feel good all over. That's also why Splash Mountain is my most favorite ride at Disneyland. :D
The South in general will always have a special place in my heart. One of my fondest memories is eating at a Waffle House with a friend in Alabama. There happened to be a men's a cappella group there as well. We struck up a conversation with the group, and they offered to sing a song for us. They chose to sing "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah"! They were so good, and the song is so much fun. Good times, good times.
Would love to see Song of the South released as well. Sigh. Too bad people have to attribute things to it that are not there. (Racist? WAT? The "white trash" family was the one that looked bad).
Not only that, but many of the blacks in the film are clearly much better people -- wiser, more compassionate, or just plain more sensible -- than the clearly-dysfunctional white family.
As for seeing it released, well... don't hold your breath on an official one, alas, but in a couple of months or so I may be able to supply you with, shall we say, a slightly less-than-official copy. :D (I've recently acquired a factory-sealed copy of the out-of-print VHS release from the UK, and am working on acquiring a PAL-format VCR to play it on. At which point, I shall crack the seal, and digitize it at the highest quality I can pack onto a DVD-R... I also have it on LaserDisc, thanks to a batch of discs I bought from Roz Gibson a couple of years ago, but the Japanese LD release has Japanese subtitles permanently burned-in to the video during the songs.)
