As an individual, determining my own personal conduct, I agree with you. In my opinion, the only way to make sure that people get treated equally is to treat people equally.
However, as a heterosexual white male, I recognize that I receive many privileges that I have not earned, because the playing field is not level, no matter how many individuals agree with you and me.
The key, from my perspective, is that American culture and society, and nearly all organizations within American culture and society, do not treat minorities the same as they treat straight white men. Organizations that are run, or influenced, by thoughtful, non-sexist, non-racist, non-homophobic individuals, must be reformed to compensate for their organizational biases, until such time as those biases no longer exist within our culture and society.
In respect and love, I appreciate your willingness to dialogue, as I appreciate Sterling's convictions and disgust with the issue as well.
Here is something to ponder: White hetrosexual males are a minority in the country. So how have they stayed in "Power". Simple drive and determination. I refuse to neglect the opportunities presented to me, when I have seen people use their sexual or racial facts to get jobs they are in NO WAY QUALIFIED for because it is the law.
We the bigoted white male of power instituted those laws and now we get to deal with them.
Here here. As a homosexual, i never want special treatment, just the same as everyone else. And this whole "Iget shit because im white" is bull!!! Im a 22 year old white male and it took me MONTHS to get a CRAPPY job at Wal-Mart. I didnt get a handout, no sir. And thats fine. I just wanna make it clear that im not getting any special treatment because of my skin tone.
