Other than completely forbidding their kids to associate with other kids, there's really not anything they can do. That's what normal human beings are like at that age.
What they should be doing is screaming about how stupid this all is. Rather than molycoddling our children, we need to be teaching them how to deal with offenses. We've spent so long protecting our children from every little scratch and harm that they can't handle it. And it turns into things like we have in D.C. right now: the Secretary of State trying to present a "kinder, gentler United States" to our enemies. To which the Taliban and Al Qaeda have replied, "We're going to hit the White House next."
To hell with "empathy training" and all that other politically correct bullhonkey. We need to be teaching our children to stand up for themselves, to let insults roll off like water, and to learn the CORE SUBJECTS they went to school to learn. We spend so much time on this drivel, the descendants of 80's warm fuzzy psychology, that our kids don't even know basic subjects anymore.
I swear... the next time I hear the term 'political correctness' used...
True something has gone wrong with the educational system, but is that the effect of political correctness? or the increased economic and political clout of parents over teacher? Or is it the twisted priorities of education administration?
Hell, I've been nearly accused of being politically correct for not liking racial slurs including ones slung at me. Is that being too politically correct for you? Sometimes I think that folks who push this 'political correctness' label seem pretty intent on making more acceptable to spit racial slurs into people's faces... and perhaps even spit on them. : / (Well, I'm not necessarily directing this at you, but this topic of blaming 'political correctness' for society's ills does get me a bit riled up) Besides... I found that less 'politically correct' countries are closer to the road to hell than to the rise to power.
Off note: Kiyoshi? There was some nincompoop with that same screenname on IRC... lordy (definitely not you... semblance of a brain was hard to find on this dude)
Was Reagan advocating a more nationalistically geared history curriculum? (The opposite being revisionist at least...) I was kinda trying to get a grasp of that speech... my ears took a nasty pounding in my traffic accident, so the speech didn't sound crystal clear.
