Windows Live Movie Maker - the devil's software

I haven't made a fanvid in a while and need a project that I can actually finish.

I've got a whole folder full of half done fills for the TW kinkmeme that I'm completely stalled on. I took the month away from my attempts at prompt-filling to take my yearly stab at Nanowrimo. (20,000+ words! The highest I've reached yet! \o/)

Now I'm trying to get back into it because there is a severe lack of love for my current favorite pairing but the words are not flowing :(

Vidding is my favorite way to procrastinate on fannish things, so I'm trying to put together a Derek/Jackson vid. Unfortunately, I've spent more time trying to find an alternative to Windows Live MM. All the other vids I've done were created with Movie Maker 6.0 before my old desktop went tits up. I've tried to use WLMM on my new laptop but I hate more than I can adequately describe. Sure it has more cool effects than MM6 but the lack of timeline view makes everything 100000x more difficult than it needs to be. Its not an improvement when you remove options in order to "streamline" an application.

After testing out the alternatives - AVS, VLan, MM2.6 - I finally realized how much I hate learning new software and just gave up. Luckily I hoard my old drives whenever possible and I was able to port MM6 over and tweak it to work on the laptop. So, all in all I've spent more time trying to make an old application work on a new system than actually using MM6.

However, the vid is coming along nicely and I have one prompt fill partially done and another one outlined that I want to rewrite. All Derek/Jackson, naturally ;)
