I finally broke down and got a new laptop! I just felt so cut off any time I traveled or...you know, went to the mall.

But now I have questions:
- What's up with the Vista IPv4/IPv6 internet settings?
- When did Starbucks start charging for wifi?
- Why does Trillian no longer support IRC?

These things trouble me. :(

You got a VISTA laptop?

These are the days I'm glad we got a divorce.

This sort of constant criticism is why I'm glad I INSISTED on a divorce!

>:(

PS Pay more alimony. And child support--I haven't gotten a child support check from you in forever!

Yes, except back then I was criticizing you for your cocaine habit and not your choice of operating system.

PS Try and sue me for child support cheques and I tell the judge you shipped our kids off to Cambodia with a talking alligator. Yeah, they called me; your game is up.

lol So does mine, but I've heard that IPv4 and IPv6 are security risks, and that's the Vista default. I don't know how extensive the danger is, nor what is preferable, though, so I thought I'd ask.

Hasn't Starbucks always charged for wifi? I remember signing my boss up for T-Mobile at some point so he could read email while he drank coffee on the company dime.

I've heard if you have a gift card or the Starbucks Visa and register it on their website you get free wifi (in addition to other goodies).

I'm not sure. I could swear I remember getting wifi free at Starbucks in the past, but I don't go there very often, so it's entirely possible that it was actually, say, a Starbuck that was located inside a mall or airport that offered free wireless, so it was a non-issue.

Oooh...I DO have a gift card--that's why I went there in the first place! I'll have to investigate.

I'm not entirely sure. I've heard that IPv4 and IPv6 are unsecure, and those are vista defaults. However, I'm not sure how serious the danger is, nor what is considered preferable, so I'm not sure whether to change the settings or not.

Charging for wifi goes against everything I believe in. >:( It costs a hundred dollars a month at most, yet they want to charge their customers $5 an hour? No way, man. I'm not bringing a computer and books to your cafe so that they can keep me company while I drink coffee after coffee; I'm ordering coffees so that you won't kick me out while I use your wireless and soft, cushy chairs!

I'll have to check out Pidgin. I've heard good things about it.
