A long time ago, I requested book recommendations because I was working on a project where I was reading through all the books I was supposed to read in school, but didn't

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Yes, it's fantasy, but it's also a commentary on the nature of what makes a hero a hero and a legend a legend. It also happens to have the single most powerful scene that I've ever read dealing with what makes performing music so important to those that do.
I like Orson Scott Card, I really do. But you realize he's an evil bastard once you look at some of his statements about homosexuality. I refuse to purchase any of his books anymore. Seriously, it's that bad. Look it up, it'll break your heart.
that is very sad news. not entirely unexpected, i guess, since the ender series seems to devolve from "lord of the flies in space" to "missionaries in space" - and though he does seem to maintain characters like ender who practice higher ethical reasoning outside of religion, i haven't been able to finish the series for this. can i redeem myself by the fact i have never purchased any of his books new and therefore may not have supported him directly (while i was supporting a lovely local business)?

Are you re-reading all six? or just the first three? Kushiel's Avatar has got to be on my short list of favorite novels.
A new one (#7) comes out in June, if you didn't know.
