So it's been a week since Hurricane Katrina, and something good finally happens to the people of New Orleans...
The Saints, New Orleans' poor excuse of a pro football team, have announced that following the damage to their stadium, the New Orleans Superdome, and the whole region of their fan base, that they will be playing the majority of their home games in another city, most likely San Antonio, Texas.
On the surface, it seems bad, but at least New Orleans will only have to suffer with having a shitty team during the basketball season... /satire and sarcasm...
Actually, in truth, this is a pretty big deal. Most people think sports and entertainment should be the last of anyone's concern at a time like that, but in truth, they're a crucial part to the overall healing process. No one in their right mind could argue the positive effects of the Yankees' run to the World Series a mere month after 9/11; for the three hours every night during October, New York was New York again.
Same thing with when the Patriots pulled off the upset and won their first Super Bowl... though now, everyone's just praying they finally lose the damn thing.
Seriously, I don't think there's a Saints fan alive that would pick sifting through rubble over going to the Superdome or even nearby Baton Rouge [early reports had the Saints playing in Baton Rouge this season] to watch the Saints get spanked every week... the team staying in Louisiana would help the state's economy, emotional state, and would ultimately help the healing process.
I couldn't find any real reason other than money why the team would plan on moving...
Then I saw some of the practice pics from Saints training camp, near New Orleans... and it all made sense to me.
