Dennis Leary has a good bit about this... Guy opens car door, biker hits it, biker yells *hey, thats my sapce* drives says *no, thats the space for my door to fucking open*
hehe
aside of that, the bike lanes are tiny, and the *door opening space* does come into the traffic area of the bike lane. Laws dictating common sense are stupid though. ITS COMMOM sense to look back before you open your door. And im not even concerned with bikers... im afraid of stupid madison drives taking my door off with THEIR CAR.
Fuck the biker I have no pity for them. I see those bastard blatantly disregard common sense and traffic laws, running stop signs and red lights, Cutting of buses, not signaling their intention to turn in any way. Its an e'f nightmare to commute to work because I never know one of the morons will jump into traffic expecting cars to magically stop. Maybe if so many bikers weren't oblivious selfish retards, I would have pity.
While I have some sympathy for bikers, I can honestly say, I agree with your statement and I hate driving in Madison any time I come down. I've had two near misses with bikes. One because a biker and his kids didn't stop for the no walk light at a cross walk while they were on the sidewalk. The other because the biker crossed across traffic in the middle of a block from one sidewalk to the other without watching. Things have seriously gotten ridiculous down there. If you're on the road, you should have to obey all rode rules, and if you ride on the sidewalk, you should at least be paying attention as much as a pedestrian does.
110%. There's way to many self-righteous pricks-on-bikes in our neighborhood that operate under the impression that any and every part of willie st. is theres for the taking. I have zero sympathy for them, especially since they have a fcking bike trail half a block over that not only is car-free, but also gets plow attention before most real roads in our neighborhood. Common-sense laws like this are just coddling these people even more, and it needs to stop.
NEITHER can predict when you might suddenly open your door- hell, depending on headrest, they may not even know you're in your car.
the person opening their car door should have the ultimate responsibility for determining it is safe to open their door, until/unless we come up with something similar to a turn signal, but for door openings.
