I forgot I still had these...

These were promotional postcards that Duran Duran used to send out during the Wedding Album era...back in the days before the internet made everything digital.

How are you doing? I noticed your "grumpy" mood doesn't really jive with the above photos!

??

Nice to see you posting, though!

and it's all thanks to you! (thank you for the nudge ;))

And don't worry - my grumpiness was just a pre-caffeine thing. Once I'd had my morning cup of coffee, I perked right up. (Coffee and chocolate - my 2 vices in life)

Other than that, I'm fine - just haven't had anything interesting to post for a while. I found the above pictures in an old photo box, and thought it was about time I tested my scanner out.... I think it did quite well :-)

I absolutely love the Ordinary World one (the tree) - I think I might have to print it out and frame it.... (and I think it's an obscure enough pic that my hubby won't get the Duran connection ;-))

Am I sneaky or wot? ;-p

He puts up with it, but he really doesn't get why I've been a fan for nigh-on 25 years...I guess, like my family, he probably thinks I should have grown out of that phase by now...(not Bloody likely!)

The thing is, I'm really not very obtrusive in my Duranie-ness...Records, videos, books, scrapbooks, posters, cds etc are all put away, out of sight...I don't do concerts and I don't constantly have Duran playing... I really don't know how he would manage if he was with one of the more, erm, fanatical Duranies out there, as he thinks I'M over the top about it all ;-)

That they were... darthmoocher March 9 2006, 09:44:40 UTC
Everything seemed so much less corrupt within the band and the people around it (although, I guess it really wasn't - there just wasn't the blanket coverage that the internet provides nowadays, in those days, and problems within the band were able to be hidden from those who weren't in the "circle". Now, because of the instant-ness of the internet, someone in the band only has to look at someone wrong, and it's all over the forums, with pictures and amateur video footage to back it up ( ... )

I think it was. They didn't seem to feel the need to act like exclusive popstars, if you know what I mean. I went to London a few times back then, and met them outside recording studios but also at Nick's or Warren's. While someone can argue that what I was doing was basically stalking, they didn't seem to mind at all. I remember asking Nick if he minded, and he never said he did. Their (UK based) management was MUCH nicer too. You could actually phone them, and they'd be as helpful as possible. There was no ddm.com either...

Sure there used to be drama back then as well, and people showing off etc... but everything looked more genuine. I almost hate to say it (I have some personal issues with him) but Warren had made DD more approachable by letting people inside the studio to let them hear the new stuff. That's still one of the best memories I have from my "teenage years as a duranie".
