Nick Mamatas Star Wars Part 1

When I was in the US, I purchased the book star wars on trial, and it was a fun book. The only problem was Nick Mamatas's essay, which was insulting, rude, condescending, whiny, and which missed the point a lot. I sent Mr. Mamatas a message, and he never responded, so without further ado, I will discuss it right now ( Read more... )

I enjoyed Mamatas' testimony, even though I disagreed with the particulars, for most of the reasons you outline, especially 13. As far as I'm concerned, it's all in good fun.

He struck me as serious. He was not being fun. In fact, I suspect he is utterly incapable of having fun. I ran the essay on sd.net; everyone agreed that he was a dumbass. And he is. He's arrogant rude, a liar at worst and an inattentive boob at best.

That doesn't really prove anything. And nihilistic-kid is extremely entertaining.

Is Motti the guy who twists his mouth into several different positions while telling Vader that he's a superstitious dickwad? I love that scene. I also love how redlettermedia uses that as a proof text for Vader being better as a major player but not THE major player of the series.

yeah I know. It was two years ago and I was more immature. I'm even wondering whether to take it down since it's been a while. I don't agree with Nick, but eh. He's entitled to his opinion. I got the opinion he wasn't into fun because of his rant about how it ruined cinema. IT just struck me as one of those film snobs who laid it all on star wars and that allegedly ruined cinema. If you look at abominations like heavens gate, the behind the scenes nightmare of apocalypse now (whether you like it or not the behind the scenes was a fucking nightmare) and the increasing egotism of many autuers resulting in them wasting money and caring more about artistic themes than good stories, those played more of a role. I guess I was tired of seeing other film snobs say something as broad and over generalizing.

I still feel that some of the points he makes are flawed, but I'm not going into it. It's been two years, I'm a different person, and I just want to enjoy university

Vader also only didn't act right away on the death star because simply waiting would have enabled the completion of two goals rather then just one.
