Yes, they can. Oldest living one was around 50 years.

a 50 year old goldfish. christ. and a 3-second memory? a hell of an achievement, and nothing at all. poor lil' bugger.

and yes, i thought he deserved a smidgen of dignity now he's forgetting things in heaven. obviously not...
