kanji attack!

Aug 22, 2006 21:57

Does anyone know of some good methods for memorizing a large amount of kanji (reading and writing) in a short period of time? A lot of my courses this semester are pretty kanji heavy and I've never been able to get the hang of memorizing it very well. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

one reading tactic I always like as a break from rote memorization was to find episodes of japanese TV with guest singers. There are a lot of these on youtube. They always run the subtitles at the bottom, so it's really great speed reading practice, as you can usually pick up the pronunciation from the vocals and then double check it with a kanji dictionary. Although you do end up picking up a high degree of poetic vocabulary. :) (actually, this method works with any show where they interview people, like utaban, because whenever people say something particularly funny or interesting they will caption it for emphasis). This also helps a lot with pronunciation as a side bonus!

Spaced repetition technique can help
I use anki software on pc, they have premade decks for japanese.
If you have more time - there are some sophisticvated methods, like learning kanj in groups by same reading
