Burning Flipside 2013 Art Piece idea

I can't sleep at all, 2nd night in a row, so I started thinking about Flipside next month and what I'm going to be doing for it. And then I had it, an idea for potentially my first burn art contribution.

This is a rough draft, of course.

This year's theme is the Bandersnatch Boobytrap. For me, this year, catching and confronting the beast within has a helluva lot to do with addiction.

My piece would be called "The Devil of Addiction" or "The Beast of Addiction" It would be a giant (at least a foot or two long body) syringe made out of nailed plywood and glued pop-sickle sticks. Painted, I think, I want a brightly colored, evil/demonic visage at the front, with the long needle (made with real metal, and very sharp/jagged/dangerous) as its ominous or frightening-looking mouth. The body of the syringe itself should be open or openable (in case of rain), and I will place a bunch of paper and pens/pencils with it, with a sign encouraging people to write or draw about the poison(s) that have brought out their inner beast, which they have have had to overcome (... may always be overcoming). They can then add their objectified poison "beasts" to the demon syringe body and share in the catharsis of its righteous combustion, our collective triumph over the demons of addiction, probably on Burn Night after the effigy burn. I will either make a table out of plywood for it or buy a stand of some sort, maybe add a pile of wood underneath it before it burns to make it a larger fire.

Night time lighting should be simple and battery powered. I need a light for the sign, the area to write/draw, and maybe some colored LEDs for inside the body. Most importantly, the demonic visage should be lit, possibly with glowing red LED eyes (covered with colored paper to diffuse/look spooky). And probably also the metal needle itself, so people don't accidentally run into/cut themselves on it.

If not this piece, I'm feeling more and more that I want to do something. This is the Texas burn, MY burn, MY community, and I want to finally contribute something creative, beyond volunteering.
