The Opal Martini

2 oz gin
1 oz Cointreau
1 1/2 oz orange juice
orange zest

Like most of these drinks, shake it over ice and strain into a cocktail glass, then add the orange zest.

I have no idea who invented this, but I got it from the book "Martinis" by Ben Reed.  It's a slightly bitter but well rounded drink that I'm fond of in the late evening.  With ( Read more... )

I'll have to try it; it sounds good and all I'm missing is some fresh oranges. I remember introducing you to gin. Now the student has become the master ^_^

That's right, you did get me into gin. Thank you. You also started me off with tanqueray and tonic, a combination I still enjoy. Do you drink martinis much?

I never got a taste for vermouth. Mostly these days I go for Gimlets. I always mean to try something new but I don't know what to ask for ^_^

You may very well have tried this, but mix one part vanilla vodka and two parts orange soda, stir, and add ice, and you've got the Orange Creamsicle.

That one is a treat. A similar favorite of mine is one part chocolate vodka and one part orange juice as a shot. Tastes just like an Orange Tootsie Roll, which is what it is called.

We did something similar, with a third of a shot each of creme de cacao, vodka and orange juice. In fact, did we feed you one once? I doubt it since we only set up the bar after you left...
