For Hilary

Hilary inspired this post, with her description of how one of her coworkers thinks the public school system is great, efficient, healthy, well-adjusted and angelic. He is SO RIGHT. In lieu of my love for it, and prompted by her post, I would like to write down my top ten most glowing memories of public school ( Read more... )

Wow. How could I have ever loved public school? :)

I don't seem to remember that moment in Mr. Bozo's class. Was I there that day? Anyway, I don't remember who they were talking about either.

Although I do have my own moment from his class. He was being stupid about the timeline for some test or homework, and also about what day to let us have a party. I suggested something extremely logical and fair, and ALL of the class agreed, even the cruel people. But Mr. Bozo said, "No, I don't think that's a good idea. Such and such reason says so." Then I said, "But that's not fair to us. I already gave you a great solution."

And Pat Moore (aka Arrogant Jerk on Two Legs who I had never spoken to in my life) piped up at me, "You whine all the time. Why don't you stop talking?" Julie-Rose got mad and started in on Pat, while Mr. Bozo stood there and smiled. Like it was funny that popular Patsy slammed me after he slammed my idea.

UGHHH!!!! I forgot how much I hated, HA-TED high school.

You and I weren't in the same class in Mr. Bo's class. I had it last hour and you and Posie had it earlier. I remember that story about Pat Moore saying you whine all the time and Mr. Bo thinking it was funny. Mr. Bo really did treat people horribly, and he let the popular students be cruel to the unpopular students right in front of him.

I also remember him CONFIDING ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE in some of the popular girls in the class. He was once letting one of them read his e-mails from this girl he'd just broken up with. They were talking about it right by my desk, where I could hear everything they were saying. I turned around to look at them, and Mr. Bo was all like "Uh, excuse me, this is private" and then he went back to talking to the other girls.

In conclusion, he was an awful teacher.

This memory of yours scares me, because I remember him doing that EXACT same thing in my class. So either he made it a habit in all his classes or you just did such a good job of retelling it that I adopted it as my own memory. I tend to think it was the former.

In retrospect, I wish someone had told other teachers that Mr. Bo was doing this. It was highly inappropriate, and I think they might have dismissed him over something like that. I wish I'd realized how odd that was at the time.
