After reading this article I feel hard pressed to ever buy a home that is under the jurisdiction of an HOA. I don't think I want anyone telling me what I can and can't do with my property.
I live in a condo, which is similar, but tolerable. If one wants to live in a detached house, I don't really understand the incentive to buy into a private, suburban HOA at all.
so.... if you actually BUY your house... it can be taken away because you didn't pay your little bitty "club" dues? So... you're renting? but you own it?
