[Astrid's immediate plan of action after figuring out where she was and talking to the weird man who gave her what little information she had, was to find an armory. There had to be one, what village wouldn't have one? She'd dropped her axe when that Thor-damned dragon picked her up ( Read more... )

[Hello, wandering Viking girl. You look lost. Here is a man in partial blue plate armor, wanting to be helpful.]

Have you recently arrived?

[The blonde blinks a bit, shifting her weight to her other foot as she turns to see the source of the voice. The armor doesn't look like anything from home, but there's no sense in not answering him.]

I have.

[....well, she never intended to say a lot. 8| Are you going to introduce yourself?]

[Yes, yes he is.]

I am the Warrior of Light, and this place is called Vertiline. You have been brought here in the hopes that you will aid the local inhabitants in their fight against invading monsters.

[Your turn now, Astrid.]

[....you don't have a name?]

Astrid Hofferson of Berk.

[See, she knew most of that, but...]

Well, where are these monsters we're supposed to fight?

[No, no he does not. However, if she so wishes, Astrid is free to join the Warrior Naming Committee that is slowly coming into existence as more and more people become irritated with the mouthful that is his identity.]

We recently endured an invasion, though the creatures were...trivial.

[Jack mice and vicious rabbits weren't what he pictured when they were told there would be 'monsters'.]

But there is a strange fog that surrounds the area, and within lurk much more dangerous creatures. It has already claimed two lives, although the unfortunate were revived by unknown means shortly afterwards.

[...okay, THAT catches her interest.]

Revived? That's not possible. Maybe they weren't really dead, just... comatose, or something?

I have spoken to both. One was crushed; the other, eaten. I do not think they could have been mistaken for comatose.

I have seen revival of the dead before, but...the situations were very different. Somehow, I do not think this is the doing of any god.

[And that's.... pleasant. Okay, that's not good. That's right into dragon-fighting territory right here. Maybe this place isn't too different from home, even though it's a LOT warmer...]

What do you mean, 'not the doing of any god'? The Gods don't have that kind of power.

[Not back home, to Astrid's knowledge, anyway.]

We are from different worlds.

[At least, he's assuming so.]

What holds true for yours may not hold true for mine, or the other way around.

True, but I still haven't figured out whether or not I'm dreaming, or if this is some kind of messed-up Valhalla or something.

[Cautious skepticism is the name of the game here. She's not going to jump to any conclusions, or suddenly believe what people are trying to tell her.]

[Valhalla...Where has he heard that term before? Hang on...]

...Do you know a boy named Hiccup?
