[Astrid's immediate plan of action after figuring out where she was and talking to the weird man who gave her what little information she had, was to find an armory. There had to be one, what village wouldn't have one? She'd dropped her axe when that Thor-damned dragon picked her up ( Read more... )

so everything is crazy, the kind of girl who can take down a man, this is for kidnapping me

[Oh hell.

If he knew how much trouble he was in, you can bet your pointy skirt he'd be hiding...but...

He doesn't know.

Nope, he's just chillin' on this rock, starting another sketch of this statue. He reeeeally likes these statues, dude. They're so different from the ones back home. Hiccup quickly becomes engrossed in getting what's left of the face just right.]

[Hiccup is pretty lucky she doesn't have a new axe yet.

She's a little miffed, yeah. Not exactly the happiest of campers.]

HICCUP!

[It's almost more of a squawk than a yell.]

[And he immediately falls the hell off the rock.]

Wha--

Astrid?!

[Oh, hi, Hiccup, have a VERY ANGRY VIKING GIRL rushing up to you. She grabs a fistful of the fabric of his shirt and drags him up to his feet, eyes narrowed.]

Now that that thing's not around, I want answers! Just what in Odin's name do you think-- you're insane!

[Who's insane, Astrid? :|]

[Hello, wandering Viking girl. You look lost. Here is a man in partial blue plate armor, wanting to be helpful.]

Have you recently arrived?

[The blonde blinks a bit, shifting her weight to her other foot as she turns to see the source of the voice. The armor doesn't look like anything from home, but there's no sense in not answering him.]

I have.

[....well, she never intended to say a lot. 8| Are you going to introduce yourself?]

[Yes, yes he is.]

I am the Warrior of Light, and this place is called Vertiline. You have been brought here in the hopes that you will aid the local inhabitants in their fight against invading monsters.

[Your turn now, Astrid.]

[....you don't have a name?]

Astrid Hofferson of Berk.

[See, she knew most of that, but...]

Well, where are these monsters we're supposed to fight?

[Kevas is heading back to his pod with a lumber axe in one hand and a bundle of wood under the other arm.

When he sees Astrid wandering around seeming lost his big brother instincts start to kick in.]

Joo lost dere girliemon?

[Astrid really would have replied in kind-- or, well, at least, not in the general, calm tone she uses for most of her social interactions, if it weren't for--

Well.

She gives a gasp and ducks behind a low wall, grabbing for a nearby branch-- something, anything.]

Stay back, troll!

[Ruffnut had a habit when they were little of teasing her-- she'd always said Astrid's name wasn't scary enough to frighten trolls. Astrid didn't believe in gnomes OR trolls, even back then. Apparently, she'd been wrong.]

Have no fear! He'll eventually prove to her that he's awesome! pimp_hat January 29 2011, 05:12:52 UTC
[Her reaction doesn't bother him at all. In fact it's pretty much commonplace by now. What really surprises him though is the fact that she recognizes him as a troll. Honestly it makes his day.

Still, he doesn't want to frighten her more than he already has. Kevas buries the axe into the dirt and holds his free hand above his head. He rather not drop his wood though.]

Whoa whoa, relax dere girliemon. I ain't gonna be causin' joo no trouble.

[He steps away from the axe as if to prove it. Though his swords are still on him so there's no telling if that will actually make her feel better.]

[Kevas, you are the chillest bro. Astrid? Astrid is not that chill. Still on edge from being dropped in a tree by a dragon and being dropped here in the first place, she's painfully tense, gripping the branch she's liberated from a bush until her knuckles are white. If Kevas isn't careful, she'll bring it down on his head.

She's planning routes of escape as she talks.]

Don't lie to me!

[Zack's been thinking lately that having a back up weapon might be a good idea. With all the crazy going on here there's always the chance that his sword might become inaccessible for some reason or taken away again. There's the blacksmith, but firearms aren't his thing...so knives it is.

He reaches the armory and steps inside-intending on searching out what he came for-when he spots a flash of blond hair out of the corner of one eye.

Blond hair the exact shade of chocobo feathers.

But of course it's not him. It's a young girl. A young girl welding some very sharp looking axes.

...Wait a second.]

Yo!

[The handle of the axe Astrid is presently fiddling with is almost as high as her chest. She's testing the balance on it, holding it, doing everything but swinging it to lob it at something. Really, it's a bit too much. It's not that she can't use it, it's that she can't throw it well.

Someone trying to call out to her does make her turn, though. She doesn't say anything, just raises an eyebrow.]

[The silent type then.

Upon seeing her with the axe his first concern was that she was some overconfident girl who's about to lose a few appendages, but the way she handled that weapon...]

You fight back home?

[He doesn't know much about axes himself, but it looks like she knows what she's doing. The axe she's holding is almost as big as she is. He's surprised she's able to handle it so well with those skinny arms of hers.]

[...strange spiky-haired guy is talking to her.]

You could say that.

[She sets the axe back down and starts surveying it, checking the edge. She'd mention her training, but she's still juuuuuust a little sore about losing out to Hiccup, so. Not gonna talk about that, nope.]
