[ So Erik's gotten the feed mostly figured out, no thanks to some large amount of time tinkering with the damn thing and Charles being unhelpful helpful with his constant use of it to talk to several of the new arrivals. He focuses the feed onto himself, sitting at a table in the Jedi library, Charles is behind him, rifling through an impressive ( Read more... )

You're an intelligent girl, Claire, figure it out yourself. [ Back to the no nonsense education here. ] I don't know what else this Sylar can do, though I doubt it'd be long before you get the upper hand on him. You can't make the act personal if you don't try enough.

[ This just gets better and better, doesn't it? Erik doesn't pursue the line of questioning regarding the company Claire was talking about, though he wants to. He narrows his eyes at the comment, the simple fact that they were doing things with mutants, resonating with him, though he steels himself, looking back at Claire and addresses the present topic. ]

Who else has Sylar killed? [ In truth, Erik is looking for what else the man can do, to build up that first set of defenses. ] People like us, anyone that's gone after him at all.

[The words 'for God's sake, Erik' flashed through Charles's mind, as he experienced a sensation not unlike the headlong rush after his friend into the Russian compound. Charles had no idea what his friend had careened into with this girl but the over all sound of it was making him less and less comfortable.

He held his tongue, Erik's questions in line with anything he might ask on his own and so he merely waited and let Claire talk uninterrupted.]

Here, I don't know. And back home, there's no way for us to know all of his powers either. At least, no one ever told me about his powers. I know he has telekinesis, he can heal like me, he killed a guy who could emit radiation...

He'll probably go after my dad soon, too. [She...doesn't want to say specifically why, but it's pretty obvious that the guy has a power. But that's not her secret to share.]

He'll definitely want your power, Erik. And whatever yours is, Charles. He'll want them both.

[ Whether it was intentional or not, the tension behind Charles hit Erik, hit him hard and he glanced back at him, the faintest hint of pure worry lacing his eyes. Telekinesis, regeneration, radiation? He could feel his head swimming at prospect, the things he needed to sit down and talk to Charles about, one on one.

He wants to offer the slightest bit of comfort, to reassure her that Erik wouldn't allow anything to happen, but he can't. They can't keep innocence in check all the time, not when Claire knows what happened to her, what will happen to everyone else all the same if he can't step in and prevent this from happening. ]

I can't say I'm surprised, it would only be a matter of time before he finds out what I can do. [ And what Charles can do, that telepathy of his would only be the final touch; Erik had no intention of letting Charles involved physically. ]

[Good, God but that list is both horrific and in some corner of Charles's brain, fascinating at the same time. A mutation that allowed for the absorption and retention of the powers of others was a horrifying prospect and he can now understand why Claire sees this Sylar as damn near invincible.

The thought of the man targeting Erik, Ororo hell even Logan, the tall man at his elbow was not wrong in the assertion that they needed to defend against such possible attacks.

But why Charles mused in that one quiet compartment of his head that was his and only his. What is driving this man to take on such weight. Surely it must be too much...

Setting his mind to chewing on that question, Charles brings his focus back onto Claire and he smiles, reassuringly at her.]

When compared to such things as regeneration, telekinesis and radiation, I fear that Mr. Sylar would find me a pale disappointment. Party tricks and silly games, nothing of any note.

[What? Yes, Erik, believe it or not, Charles does occasionally strategize on his feet. ( ... )

You don't get it. It doesn't matter what the power is, even if it's entirely lame. He wants them all, just to have them. He wants to be the most special. [She lets out a steadying breath, so she won't yell at them. They're trying to help her, trying to figure out the situation. it's not their fault that the subject of Sylar gets her angry and emotional ( ... )

The Petrellis, correct? [ He's already met them, Nathan on several occasions, Peter at least once, though Erik is looking to clarify, at least for Charles' sake though he wouldn't be surprised if Charles had already peered through Claire's mind for answers. ]

Although I can't say I agree with Peter's stance, I suppose it's one of those things I'll have to bring up if I see him again -- [ He hesitates, remembering a previous message from Nathan about his disappearance. ] -- assuming he's back. He's been missing for a while, hasn't he?

[Claire's mind was certainly a revelation Charles had not expected. So much information in there, he lost track of the verbal conversation for a moment and put his whole focus on sorting out the memories she brought with her from her home dimension and what was applicable to the immediate here and now.

Erik's voice, the gravelly tone almost as familiar as his own, served as a thread to what was being discussed verbally.]

[She nods at the mention of Peter.] He's been back for a while now. No one can keep him locked up for too long. [She smiles in admiration at that, so what if Claire hero worships her uncle? That's entirely normal!]

And yeah, the Petrellis. Peter's a lot more open and honest than Nathan is. I love my dad, but he's a politician, and he doesn't want to open up about what we are. That pretty much stinks because I think he knows a lot more than Peter does.

I wouldn't be surprised. Your father did seem to keep quite a bit hidden when I tried speaking to him. [ Erik glanced over to Charles, as if he might be of some use to them, trying to find out what the Senator knew about the entire situation. ]

Perhaps it's just a matter of asking the right questions next time.

[He could and most likely would certainly try if given the opportunity. For now, when he's collected what he needs from Claire, Charles shifts back and lowers his hand to his knee.]

I believe I would like to talk to your father if he has availability at some point?

[As for 'opening up' about what they are, Charles gives another little inward chuckle. This girl could practically be Erik's twin sister when it came to history and philosophy. No wonder his friend was thoroughly entangled.]

He's not going to like you. [She promises, because she knows her dad doesn't like anyone, especially anyone who will ask about his family.] Ever since I was attacked, I've been spending a lot more time with him at his office. I can try seeing if he'll contact you, but knowing that I told you guys all this information is going to make him pretty angry. He likes to keep family business private.

[She offers the two a smile, one of gratitude. And maybe a little bit of admiration toward Erik. He's a swell guy.]

I didn't mean to turn into the girl that cried wolf on you guys, I'm just really worried about what it means if Sylar made the first move and stole my power. He keeps hidden for the most part here, and always talks to me on private filters, but he hasn't in a while. Whatever he's planning...I just want people that I care about that might be targets to be aware of what he's capable of. You know?

Making the first move doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. [ As both Erik and Charles are fairly familiar with, their chess matches resulting in quite a few unexpected ends. ]

In the meantime it might be in your best interests if you practiced a bit more? [ Look Charles, he's not only made friends but adopted a x-baby for you. ] If Sylar does come back for you, you're better off learning to defend yourself.

[ As far as Nathan goes, it's only a matter of time. Erik's been persistent in trying to break him; a couple of attempts should be more than sufficient to get what he needs from the man. ]

[Adopted an x-baby for himself more like. Don't think Charles is missing this near hero worship thing going on over here. Its not unlike having lived with Raven for the past few days.]

I will try my utmost not to make your father uncomfortable, Claire or get you in hot water with him. Surely a conversation won't go amiss?

[He smiles at Erik and nods.] Training is very important and Erik is an excellent instructor. [How he got that out with a straight face should be worrisome.]

I think you missed the part where my dad is a politician. Everything goes amiss with him. [She dismisses the thought that her dad is a rational and normal person with a laugh, and instead nods eagerly at the whole Erik assessment.]

Yeah, he's taught me a lot. I bet he can teach me a lot more, but I'm not going to force him to play teacher. You two are probably busy building...things out of alabaster. [She's adapted creative new ways of asking for help. Guilt and flattery can get her everywhere, she's learned this.]
