[A woman looks curiously down at the datapad, before narrowing her eyes at it. She appears to be highly suspicious of the device. For a moment or two she holds this position, before tilting her head to the side and pointing at the screen. The jabs her finger at it twice before once again pausing. Her brows furrow and her lips purse in thought. At ( Read more... )

Hi.

It's a datapad. Everyone gets them when they come here - we use them to talk long distance. Or short distances, sometimes.

[Chell gives a short wave of her hand. She looks over the datapad again, nodding and tapping at its screen.

She still doesn't appear to trust it and she sighs before switching to text again.]

so it's needed.

Not needed. You can leave it behind or cannibalize it for parts or something. It's just that if you want to get in contact with someone without using a comlink or meeting them in person, this is the best way.

[She's about to switch back to video before noticing another term she doesn't recognize.]

comlink?

[Then she really switches back to video. It's clear she's giving the device a once over, debating whether or not to junk it or to keep it. It had proved fairly useful so far.]

Voice transmitters. ...Sorry.

You could always leave it in the room for a while. It's yours, you can do what you want with it.

[Her mouth moves to form an "ah" shape, though she remains silent. Chell smiles before pointing to herself and then switching to text.]

[In video again, Chell gives a peculiar expression. It looks sad, almost wistful. How many years had it been since she last heard another human say her name?

She smiles again, softer, and nods.]

I'm not sure what else you could find to write on. Datapads are everywhere... Paper books maybe? There aren't a lot of those here.

- and I guess it's hard to write over something on paper. Huh.

[Chell did have to concede that it was becoming a bit of a pain to switch between modes. It would do if she really needed it, but something more physical would be better.

She looks upward, thinking, before something occurs to her. Both of her pointer fingers come together in the shape of a rectangle, then she mimes writing on it. She points at the mimed object before moving her hand in a wide berth to indicate the general area.]

Something with a... stylus? Around? Some datapads can do that, I think. They're more common in my time... I think I've seen some that people draw on?

Sorry. I'd find one, but I'm not on the same planet.

[Well, that wasn't quite what Chell had meant, but if those things were more common than traditional whiteboards or blackboards she could work with those, too.

She shakes her hand back and forth slightly, before pointing to herself then pointing her middle and index fingers at her eyes. She brings those two fingers down and does another wide sweeping gesture of the area with them. It was fine, Chell could look for one of the drawing datapads herself.]
