Just got through taking the first of the next two Unix class quizzes.

I got 60 on the test.

Two of the questions had more than one correct choice and I had to have all of the correct choices for the answer to be correct. *sigh

I would have bombed that one too: "more [filename] | tail" is ludicrous.

Yes, you can rewrite some of the more versatily utilities with simpler commands strung together, but doing so is only an intellectual exercise, and not much used in the real world.

Obviously, since this is a college course, they want all of the silly intellectual exercises. At least you'll pass the screening questions based on college trivia when you're done...
