Love VS. Work

Hi all -

Going to go ahead and put this under a cut because I'm positive it will get lengthy.

Background Info
Boyfriend and I have been dating a little over a year, the entirety of the relationship being long-distance. Fortunately, I have found that special someone who I'm in love with AND treats me with respect! (Who'd of thought that was a real thing?) We frequently go back and forth visiting each other every weekend as we only live a few hours apart. The time has come for our distance to end, and I will be moving in with him within the next couple of months. Coincidentally, he also lives in the same area as my mom and rest of my family whom I miss very much.

The Problem
About four months ago, I started a new job as the one I had prior was no longer a good fit for me. I went into my new job with reservations - it was my first "normal" Monday-Friday 8-5 administrative type job. It is also in the department I'd had so many problems with in my previous job, the dreaded HR. Although overwhelming at first, I have come to really, REALLY enjoy my job. Mostly my bosses and how fantastic and supportive they are. They acknowledge my work and applaud my efforts to anyone who's willing to listen. I have never had a job like this and especially not bosses who halfway gave a crap about me. They consistently show me how to do new things to improve my skills and want to actively have conversations about where I want to be in 5, 10, etc. years.

My first review isn't until mid-December which will be my six month mark. I've asked my best friend for guidance who suggested I ask for a transfer; however I'm ineligible for a transfer until I hit a year mark. At the moment, my heart is set on being in boyfriend's home by the new year. So, my questions are as follows:
  • When should I bring up my moving in with my boyfriend to my boss? (I would like, if at all possible, to give them a lengthy notice so as to help train whoever they find to replace me.)
  • Should I ask about the possibility of staying on with the company and transferring to my new town even though I have not been employed long enough?
  • Bonus: If transferring is not an option, when should I start looking/applying for jobs?
Thank you all in advance for your help and advice!

long distance, work
