Here are some pictures of what I saw during my trip to San Diego. :) It really was fantastic there. I'm so glad I got the chance to really appreciate that city.

This is one of the three historic ships in the maritime museum in San Diego harbor. The others are the Medea, a 1904 Steam yacht, and the Star of India.

The Star of India was built in 1863, and is the oldest active sailing ship. If you're very interested, or very bored, you can read more about the Star of India here.

Rigging on the Star of India.

That led up to the deck of the Star of India. They called it the "ladder", and I think that has got to have been the prettiest ladder I'd ever seen. :D

Mummies at the Museum of Man in Balboa Park.

The mummies were fascinating, but I have to admit, I was extremely taken with some of the artifacts they had from the amarna period. I do have some pictures of that, but they're very, well, museumy and I figured I was posting enough already. :) Akhenaten is my absolute favorite pharaoh, and it was fascinating seeing some of the actual things -- even little things, like pottery -- he had such a dramatic influence over during his reign.

Close up of a Mayan stela.

Mexican art celebrating the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos.) They had lots of little paintings, statues and what not for it.

The statue of El Cid (the 11th-century knight that drove the Moors from Spain.) in the courtyard of Balboa Park. He seems to make it on nearly every postcard for Balboa Park, so I couldn't resist snapping a picture of my own. :) It's slightly blurred because I was in the car when I took it, though.

Some of the architecture in Balboa Park.

This was in Old Town; it's the first public school that was ever built in southern California.

This one is for lil_shvibzik. :) This was the view from my grandparents' hotel room, which had a fabulous view of the harbor. This was taken on the first day we were there. It had been raining from my town all the way to San Diego, and the sun had just finally started to poke through the clouds at sunset.
