SGA The Shrine thoughts

Well, not so much about the show as to what it meant to me. Watching this episode was probably hard for a lot of you. The news about the cancellation made this bittersweet. It was much harder for me. Oh. Oh, honey. It's so very hard, to watch deterioration of someone you love. It's heartbreaking. I can only imagine it more so due to dementia.

You almost made me cry here, thinking of my Grandpa. He was the rock, the foundation of our family - our only grandfather, since Mom's Dad died when she was little. He used to call me his golden girl.

By the end, when Alzheimer's had ravaged his mind, he didn't know who anyone was, he thought grandma was his mom. He had heart failure after one week in the hospital. His Alzheimer's lasted about 5 years. I still miss playing dominoes and connect four with him... even though I could never win.

I knew the episode was going to hit home hard for a lot of viewers -- and from the way they showcased the little speech about Alzheimer's, it hit home with the writers and producers, too. ::Hugs::
