Edward had been hanging out on the docks, half contemplating setting up a desk like that charming Lucy in the comic strip, and he'd noticed both the presence of unknown minds and the pair wandering up the beach. He looked up from his ruminations, beginning to trail after them. Belle he recognized, but the angel ... not nearly so much. His marble brow furrowed as he neared, though he wasn't sure how to broach the subject; after all, if Belle had been the one to warn them about the Riverfellians, why then was she fraternizing with them? It boggled the mind.

He hung back a little, not entirely certain where to start with this.

Isabelle watched the angel's retreat before she swung grey eyes toward Edward. Pale brows elevated and amusement tainted her thoughts as she regarded him.

"Hello, Edward," she greeted him quietly before she started along the beach toward him. She wasn't wondering what he was wondering; it was pretty plain to her. "We go back a little way," she replied. "He probably won't ... bother anyone today. Damion's the one they're likely going to have to look out for."

Edward tried to keep the not entirely convinced expression from his face, but given the fact that she could read his mind, perhaps it was a fruitless endeavour.

"Probably," he echoed, "But not assuredly. Somehow I'm hardly comforted."

Topaz eyes narrowed as he watched the angel wander away. He wouldn't pursue, but he was highly suspicious.

"Nenael's defense. Like Laurel's defense. He's not the antagonist. He's the shield."

Which wasn't to say he couldn't - or wouldn't - harm people, but it wasn't his primary function. Belle glanced over her shoulder, down the stretch of sand the angel had walked along before she swept her gaze back to Edward.

"How's Bella doing?" she said, mostly to shift the topic. There was genuine curiosity there, too - Bella's mind was one of the few Belle couldn't get into herself. It was endlessly frustrating.

She could at least slide into Sev's when his defenses weren't up - though now that he wasn't fucking her mother, she wasn't nearly as interested in him as she had been.
