He'd been sulking for a while now, and he would have continued to do so for the rest of the day if he hadn't been slightly thrown by the missing letter. For an instant, he'd thought Tristan had just knocked it off the desk, or taken it with him when he left...

...And then he remembered.

The day's events came rushing back to Remus in a bit of a blur, and he gripped at his head as though he had a headache for a moment, before sighing and looking around the room. He'd gotten dressed, and dragged himself down to the cafeteria for some breakfast.

But as he neared it, he scented something that was... all too familiar. He stopped immediately, though the action - he knew - was pointless. If he could smell Tristan, Tristan could surely smell him.

He wasn't really sure what to do. Should he run the other way? Or should he... keep going into the cafeteria? Did he stop by the lounge and say something?

Having no idea what his next move was, Remus just didn't make one, standing frozen in the hallway.

Saved the trouble of making any sort of decision regarding when to go find Remus, Tristan exhaled a soft sigh. He assumed Remus would continue on toward the cafeteria, but it smelled and sounded like he'd just stopped in the hallway.

He thought about staying there and waiting, but if Remus was just going to stand there ... well, that wouldn't help anything.

Swinging his feet to the floor, Tristan stood up and made his way out into the hallway.

"I'm sorry," he said softly. "I was out of line, and it was uncalled for, and you're welcome to flog me or beat me senseless, but Lan can assure you none of those methods actually help teach me ways to not repeat my own mistakes."

He dropped his eyes before he lifted them to gaze toward Remus. He wasn't sure the other wolf would even want to try again, to put up with him, and Tris could give him a thousand and one reasons why he himself wasn't worth the effort on Remus' part ... but for now he remained silent to see what Remus thought.

He looked at the other wolf, somewhat defenseively. He'd been hurt, and he couldn't really shake that feeling. Old insecurities that he didn't think he'd ever be able to get rid of rose back up to the surface, and he looked away briefly to get rid of some of the building tension before he looked back at Tristan.

What did that mean, he was sorry. He was sorry for the situation? He was sorry for the way he'd handled it? He wanted to get back together? Remus tensed up slightly at that one.

What if another kid showed up - or someone from Tristan's future - and he got riled up again?

"You weren't wrong," he said quietly, unable to think of anything else to say. He wasn't sure he was willing to forgive after all.

"I wasn't right, either," he countered. "And even if I had been, I had no right to ... single-handedly end everything," he pointed out. "So ... I'm sorry, for that. And if you ever change your mind, you know where I sleep." He offered him half a smile, but if he were Remus, he wouldn't take him back.

He wasn't expecting him to, either; all the same, he had to put the offer on the table.

"So. My asshattery aside, how've you been?" He gazed at his feet before he lifted his eyes to study Remus' face.
