Moremoremore! just a ficlet, though.
Title: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
Fandom: Kaleido Star
Author: Dauthi
Rating: G
Pairings: None (it could be Layla/Sora if you wear lavender-tinted glasses, which you probably would've done throughout the anime series too then)
Summary: There's always tomorrow.
Notes: Technically there are spoilers, but they're not really spoiling anything for you.
Layla’s hair has grown back to its original length. This is what Sora thinks as she exits the terminal and enters the sleek black limousine with “Hamilton” stamped across its license plate. So much time has passed.
Sora can’t remember when they stopped keeping in touch. She supposes it started when Layla quit off-Broadway and took up her father’s business. Big executives have little time for quaint conversations. Mr. Hamilton had shown the both of them that. And then Layla followed in his footsteps.
Inside the limousine Layla nods curtly and smiles. Her smile is made more of steel than warmth, though, and if Sora didn’t know Layla she would be quivering in a corner.
She wonders why Layla has summoned her here.
Layla is wearing a cream colored skirt today, matched with a cream colored jacket and a sky blue scoop neck. Pearls adorn her neck. Chanel sunglasses rest on the bridge of her nose, even as the tinted windows of the limousine scroll up to block out the rest of the world. Sora is curiously reminded of the day they returned to the Kaleido stage after their Legendary Maneuver training, when Layla slapped Yuri viciously across the face.
“How are you doing?” Layla’s voice interrupts Sora’s reverie.
“Quite well,” Sora replies. “We just finished performing Beauty and the Beast. Rosetta’s really fantastic, she just keeps on improving every day. I can’t wait until she becomes a true star too, people are already saying our performances are amazing, but if both of us become -“
“You can still see Fool, huh,” Layla interrupts. On her face and in her voice is longing and envy, and a dull sort of pain.
“I,” Sora stammers, “I’m sorry.”
Layla momentarily looks surprised, then smiles again, this time more warmly. “Oh, no, that’s not what I meant, I meant that it’s great that you can still see Fool. You and Rosetta are going to be a dynamic duo in no time at all.”
“...I wish,” Sora begins.
“You can wish all you want,” Layla interrupts gently. “But you know yourself, you know me, we’re not the wishing kind of people. We’re the kind of people who have a dream and go out and attain that dream.”
“Fine then,” Sora grumbles, and Layla chuckles. “Then I want for you to be happy. And I’m going to make you happy.”
Layla stops solemnly and stares at Sora intently. “And just how do you think you’re going to make me happy?”
Sora shrugs. “I have a plan,” she states, and strides over to a cabinet lined with DVDs. “Let’s watch a movie.”
Layla raises her eyes. “I have a meeting in twenty minutes.”
“So? Say you’re sick or something. You want to watch a movie with me, right?”
Halfway through the movie Sora rests her head on Layla’s shoulder and snuggles into Layla. Absent-mindedly Layla brings her arm around Sora.
“You’re coming to my next show,” Sora intones. It is a statement, not a question. Layla’s mouth quirks upward in amusement.
“I missed you,” she murmurs.
