I hate to delve into the petty personal politics of WSHS but people I love are being hurt by others' childishness ( Read more... )

I had no idea that this (outrageous proposal, etc) was going on, but this is absolutely absurd. As long as they're not drunk and high at school its none of the school board's damn business. These kids are individuals and have the right to make decisions about their bodies and the activities they engage in-- being a student is only one facet of who these kids are and the governing authority in matters where the individual is considered a student should only have any weight when the individual is actively being a student (i.e. on campus).
this is so fucked up.

good post, btw.

I don't know much about the issue at hand so I cannot fully give my support or rejection of set issue. Suffice to say that although it may seem outrageous it occurs in other instances too for instance college. You think that you can't get caught for doing illicit acts involving other substances outside of school and find yourself dealing with the repercussions? You have to look at it this way, you're a representation of the school, business, etc. Although you may not believe that it matters much outside of school because what you do is your own business, but if any illegal instance occurs and is found by authorities it can/will bring about a bad reputation for set school, business, etc. For instance if there is a story covering the incident involving someone they'd be listed as FSU student so and so, or So and so company employee did this. Again I'm not justifying that it's a good thing or bad because frankly I don't know much about it. I'm simply expressing the other side for discussion purposes. The fact is that whether you partake ( ... )

I was involved with the issue. I believe the school board should not get involved and neither should thespians. However, if using illegal substances is what us drama kids are after we should be more careful with how we go about doing it. Almost half the school knew by Monday morning. The fact that so many people found out so quickly is crazy. If it is a personal matter keep it personal. I did not go around telling people about my Saturday night but everyone found out anyways. The fact that it was so widespread does give the school the right to enforce the student code of conduct. If it is however kept private like it should be kept, then no one should go around telling trying to get kids in trouble ( ... )

Half the school knew by Monday morning? Well, I sorta doubt that, but if so then why have people continued the unnecessary act of talking about it? Things like that happen. It's no more new news than it is old. Like you said, if it's a personal matter keep it personal. And widespread or not, why would it give the school more of a right to take charge? I don't exactly think what happened made the 10 o'clock news, but I think I see what you're saying.

Also, this "off campus" Seminole County rule wasn't properly explained to us (today I mean). At least, I don't think it was. I think there's more to it than just "off campus". Off campus as in school related activities or anything out of school in general?

i believe it is anything out of school. cause in sports you dont have to be doing the sport to be caught. its not allowed to be in your system at all. so i believe that when the code of conduct says out of school, it means at all times.

This surprises me for mainly one reason- that such a creative selection of our student body, known for its freethinking ideas and practices, would support or even propose such idiocy.
