It was a pretty uneventful weekend overall. Saturday Ann was busy with schoolwork, so we all just kind of took it easy. I've been trying to get Allison to clean up her room and she just wouldn't take the hints I was giving her, so I finally had to ground her until it's done. And that's D-O-N-E. This has nothing to do with your post, but I got a question for you and this is as good as any place to ask :-)

Do you know if an automatic transmission with overdrive from a 1996 Escort will fit a 1988 Escort with a three-speed automatic?

Hmmm. Not sure really. The '96 probably has/had a 2.0L engine and the '88 a 2.3 so I would guess no. But I don't know really. The biggest concern I would have would be if the '96 tranny requires an ECM to operate properly. If it does, it may not work in the '88.

Let me ask one of my engineers tomorrow. He works with the Ford engines in our section so he may know better. I'll let you know.

Thanks, 'preciate it. What's going is I have a line on a cheap replacement tranny for mine that died from a friend who bought an engine/tranny combination but only wanted the engine. If the '96 will work in the '88 (and I must admit I didn't think about an ECM issue) it would solve my problem, and I would think I could score better mileage on long trips with the overdrive.
